Plastic Free July is a campaign set up by the Plastic Free Foundation in Australia and is one of the most influential environmental campaigns in the world.

This award-winning campaign focuses on ways to encourage people to start their plastic free journey by making easy everyday swaps, recycling correctly, and taking part in community clean up events. Last year it is estimated that 326 million people across 177 countries participated in Plastic Free July!

Here are just some of the ways that you can switch from using singing use plastics this month:

·        Switch to reusable items such as coffee cups, food containers, metal straws

·        Find plastic free alternatives for your everyday bathroom items such as toothbrushes, soaps, and shampoo

·        Avoid disposable products where you can

·        Ensure you are recycling your waste correctly

·        Avoid pre-packaged food, buy loose fruit and vegetables where possible

Plastic free and bio-acetate eyewear has become extremely popular over the last few years, with more brands looking at sustainable ways to make and package their eyewear. There are many glasses available now made from natural materials such as seeds, wood, slate, and recycled metal, allowing people to choose products that are free of single use materials and good for the environment.

One of the current leading sustainable and award-winning eyewear brands is Eco Eyewear. Eco have 3 different collections of eyewear; Biobased, Recycled and Ocean.

The Biobased collection is made from castor seeds, which is turned into an oil and then pellets. These pellets make up the biobased material used to make each frame. Recycled uses up to 95% recycled metal, saving on natural resources and the newest collection, Ocean is made from recycled waste from the sea such as fishing nets, trawls, and ropes.

Alongside their environmentally friendly eyewear collections, Eco use recycled paper for their packaging, plant a tree for every frame purchased and organise beach clean ups! They truly are one of the best sustainable eyewear brands around!
